The Greek alphabet, made memorable

Learn the Greek alphabet — and actually remember it.

Mnemon uses spaced repetition to teach you all 24 Greek letters in both directions: recognising a letter when you see it, and recalling the letter from its name.

How Mnemon works

A small lesson, then practice at the right time.

1

Meet a letter

Start with one clear connection between its shape and name.

2

Recall it both ways

Practise recognising the character and producing it from its name.

3

Review when due

Mnemon brings each card back according to your own review history.

Recognition + production

Knowing a letter works in two directions.

Seeing α and recalling “alpha” is not quite the same task as seeing “alpha” and finding α. Mnemon schedules both independently so each skill gets the practice it needs.

How does Mnemon decide what I should study?

Mnemon schedules each letter individually based on your review history, so you spend more time on letters you’re struggling with and less time repeating ones you already know.

Powered by FSRS. It uses your recall rating to calculate the next review; it does not judge your memory from a typed answer alone.

FAQ

Is Mnemon free?

Yes. The current Greek alphabet and Modern Greek IPA modules are available without a paid plan.

Do I need to know any Greek already?

No. Mnemon introduces material gradually, beginning with the first letter.

Do I need a Greek keyboard?

No. Recognition answers use Latin letter names, and production reviews use a Greek-character picker.

How long does it take to learn the Greek alphabet?

There is no single guaranteed timeline. Your daily new-card setting, review consistency, and individual recall all affect the pace.

Why does Mnemon teach each letter in two directions?

Recognising a character and recalling it from a name are distinct retrieval tasks. Mnemon gives each its own schedule.

What is spaced repetition?

It is a practice method that brings material back over increasing intervals, while difficult material can return sooner.

What is FSRS?

FSRS is the scheduling algorithm Mnemon uses to calculate future reviews from your card state and explicit Again, Hard, Good, or Easy rating.

Why aren’t all 24 letters introduced immediately?

A per-module daily quota keeps new material manageable. Scheduled reviews take priority, and related fresh cards may be spaced across local study days.

Why might a card return sooner or later than I expected?

Its next due time depends on its own review history, current state, your rating, and your module’s desired-retention setting. Displayed demo intervals are only illustrations.

Can I change how many new letters I learn each day?

Yes. Module Options lets you set the number of new cards per local day, including zero for review-only mode.

Can I change my desired retention?

Yes. Each module has its own desired-retention setting. A change affects future scheduling decisions and does not rewrite existing due dates.
